SSH JV win $817m Hospital contract in Kuwait

SSH, in joint-venture with Studio Altieri, signed the main design consultancy agreement for the design of the Kuwait New Maternity Hospital (KNMH) with design and build contractor Impresa Pizzarotti & C SpA.

As part of a national hospital regeneration programme, the Ministry of Health (MOH) is implementing a major healthcare investment into specialist healthcare services through the delivery of a new dedicated national maternity facility.

The Kuwait New Maternity Hospital (KNMH), to be located to the west of Kuwait City within the Al Sabah Specialty Medical Area, is planned by the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) in association with MOH as the end user, to be a state-of-the-art, world-class, specialist maternity hospital to service the growing healthcare needs of Kuwait and the GCC region on an international scale.

The new facility will bring together all aspects of maternity care into a single complex to form a specialist hospital for Kuwait.

For a total contract value of USD 817 Million, the design and build team will deliver the project over 54 months. Site work started in January 2017.

The project comprises the following buildings and components:

Main Hospital Building – Basement + Ground + Podium of 6 levels + In-patient accommodation of 11 levels
Annex Building – Includes Outpatient clinics, an Auditorium and Administrative facilities
Multi-storey Car Park – Basement of 2 levels + Ground + 5 typical levels + Shaded Roof Parking
Central Utility Plant – Allocated on a separate plot and includes an underground service tunnel

The project includes the supply of all medical equipment and interior furnishing, as well as providing operational maintenance for the specialist facility following hand-over. The KNMH is to feature 27 operating rooms and will accommodate 780 in-patients, the car park will hold up to 1,300 vehicles. The hospital will stand 18 storeys tall when completed.

The consultant team will fully utilise Revit building information modelling (BIM) software throughout the design development, including the use of BIM during the construction phase of the project.

The efforts of the Joint-Venture Consultant team in collaboration with Impresa Pizzarotti as the design/build contractor, will bring to fruition the vision that the MPW and MOH have for an international specialist maternity hospital for Kuwait to service the needs of local, regional and international communities.
