Scotland’s BrewDog to build $30 million Brisbane brewery

Scottish craft brewer, BrewDog, announced its plans to open its much-anticipated state-of-the-art Australian brewery and HQ right on the river in Brisbane’s Murarrie area. BrewDog announced in July of last year that it had narrowed its search for a site to Newcastle and Brisbane.

Following numerous scouting trips, meetings and feasibility studies, BrewDog settled on the Queensland capital as the site of Australian headquarters.

BrewDog has long been impressed by the passion and knowledge of the Australian craft beer community. By setting up in the Sunshine State, BrewDog is looking forward to becoming a part of the vibrant beer scene that already exists in Queensland’s capital city.

As a tourist attraction, place of employment, and a gathering place for the local community, BrewDog’s new riverfront brewery fits perfectly into Brisbane’s plans to be a new world city.

BrewDog’s investment in Brisbane will total $30 million, including the construction of the 50hl, 3,000 sqm brewing and canning facility. The site will also boast a restaurant, taproom and visitor centre.

Construction is due to start in the second half of 2018 and the first Australia brewed BrewDog beers are expected to roll out in early 2019.
BrewDog will be brewing its full line-up of headliner beers such as Punk IPA, Dead Pony Club and Jet Black Heart, as well as small-batch brews specifically for the regional market.

The launch of BrewDog Australia is expected to generate 150 jobs in the Brisbane area over the next 5 years, and the brewery will soon be recruiting for a Head of Production. Further hires will be announced throughout 2018 at brewdog.com/aus.

BrewDog’s remarkable growth has been powered by its record-breaking Equity for Punks crowdfunding initiative, which has seen the Scottish brewery raise over £52million since 2009 from more than 70,000 passionate craft beer fans across Europe and America.

James Watt, BrewDog cofounder said: “Australians are some of the most passionate and informed beer drinkers on the planet. The encouragement I received from the craft beer movement during my last visit in the country blew me away. I’m glad our Australian fans at home and in the diaspora were relentless in pushing for a brewery, and I look forward to sharing my first can of Aussie brewed Punk IPA with them!”
