Aurecon and Jacobs win $5bn Sydney M5 project
Aurecon to help design one of Australia’s biggest transport projects WestConnex New M5 project.
Aurecon is set to contribute to one of Australia’s biggest transport projects, following the announcement of the CPB Contractors Dragados Samsung Joint Venture (CPBDS-JV) as the successful contractor for the delivery of the WestConnex New M5 project in Sydney. Aurecon and Jacobs, in joint venture (AJJV), are the lead designers for the project.
The New M5 is a key element of the WestConnex master plan for Sydney. It will double the capacity of the heavily congested M5 East motorway corridor by providing new 9 km long twin tunnels from Kingsgrove to a new interchange at St Peters.
Aurecon will provide key engineering design services across design management, civil, tunnel, road, bridge, cut and cover, drainage, HV and LV, lighting, M&E spatial, water treatment, environmental, traffic modelling and buildings services.

Aurecon is currently working on a number of other key Sydney transport infrastructure projects, including NorthConnex, a nine kilometre motorway tunnel linking Sydney’s north to the orbital network.
About the project
WestConnex New M5 project consists of 9 km of twin road tunnels from the existing M5 East at Kingsgrove to a new interchange at St Peters.
There are two primary tunnel cross sections for two lanes and three lanes. Ventilation facilities will be located at Kingsgrove, Arncliffe and St Peters.
The St Peters Interchange will include numerous large box girder bridges.
