T&T and IGG win CM contract for Schipol expansion

Turner & Townsend along with construction costs expert IGG have won the contract to jointly provide cost management for a major expansion of the main international airport in the Netherlands.

Turner and Townsend will be responsible for controlling all costs of construction work for a new terminal and pier, and associated projects, both land and airside at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

The new terminal, scheduled for completion in 2023, will be constructed to the south of Schiphol Plaza, directly next to the air traffic control tower and will be connected to the existing terminal. It is anticipated to serve an extra 14 million passengers per year, bringing the total number that use the airport hub to more than 70 million.

The new flexible pier will be located near Cargo Station 1 and is expected to be ready for use in late 2019. The pier will accommodate multiple wide and narrow-body aircraft. Major modifications will need to be carried out on the surrounding road network and existing parking facilities will be relocated.

Getting young or even older children to prepare to move and leave their friends and family behind can be a challenge and should be thought through.

The options for education is another area that needs to be thought through.

Moving your child to a new country with a different education system can be a great opportunity to broaden their experience, but if they are close to key exams the timing can make this inadvisable. If you do take your family with you, it is important to decide between joining the local school system or choosing an international school.
