Sacyr consortium wins $1.2m Oman Water Project

Sacyr is in Oman with a desalination plant for more than 1,200 million dollars

Valoriza Agua will build and operate the desalination plant that will provide 250.000 m3 of water a day
This will be one of the largest investment in a desalination plant in the country

Sacyr, through its subsidiary for management of the integral water cycle, Valoriza Agua, has entered Oman with the award of the design, construction, operation and maintenance of a desalination of seawater in Sohar, at the Batinah coast for the amount of more than 1,200 million dollars.

Independent Water Project (IWP), awarded by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company to the consortium led by Valoriza Water (51%), along with Oman Brunei Investment Company (25%) and Sogex Oman (24%), includes design, construction, ownership, financing, maintenance and operation, and the purchase of drinking water produced by the project under a Water Purchase Agreement with a term of 20 years. The desalination plant with reverse osmosis technology will have a capacity of 55 MIGD, and will have a capacity of desalinated water of 250,000 m3/day. The plant will begin operation in 2018.

This project is one of the largest investments in desalination of seawater in Oman.

This contract consolidates the group’s strategy and strengthens its presence in the Middle East through the water desalination projects where Valoriza Agua has designed and built more than 100 plants with a total production of 1.7 million m3/day; desalted water that is supplied to more than 11 million people a day. Its experience and innovation have made Valoriza Agua the sixth largest company in the world in terms of contracted capacity of desalinated water for the period 2006-2013, the first Spanish company in this ranking.

Will your partner be travelling with you?

If so, what will they be giving up in your present home and will they be able to continue with their career in your new home? You will need to check whether a separate visa is required for your partner to work or if your visa gives that right. If they are unable to work you will need to decide on the effect on your finances and what alternatives are available to give a fulfilling life (home business, training, voluntary work).

Are you taking family with you?

Getting young or even older children to prepare to move and leave their friends and family behind can be a challenge and should be thought through.

The options for education is another area that needs to be thought through.

Moving your child to a new country with a different education system can be a great opportunity to broaden their experience, but if they are close to key exams the timing can make this inadvisable. If you do take your family with you, it is important to decide between joining the local school system or choosing an international school.
