Mott MacDonald picked for Brazilian waste PPP

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has appointed Mott MacDonald to a public-private partnership (PPP) project that will improve waste management in Curitiba, Brazil.

Mott MacDonald will provide technical and strategic advice on the scheme. Its appointment is financed by the country’s Private Sector Participation (PSP) programme.

Curitiba is the capital and largest municipality of the Brazilian state of Paraná, with a land area of 430km2 and an estimated population of 1.75 million. It is considered to be amongst the most prosperous cities in the country and is under pressure to develop a sound waste management solution that is both environmentally and socially sustainable.

Mott MacDonald’s will support the PSP partners and municipality to procure a private sector partner who will design, build, finance and operate a new waste collection, transport and disposal service. The consultancy’s services are expected to be delivered across the four main phases of project feasibility and procurement until the end of 2016.
