Contracts awarded for Oman highway
Oman’s Ministry of Transport and Communications has awarded two contracts worth OMR 201 million (US$ 520 million) to convert large stretches of the highway between Adam in the North East and Thumrait in the south West to a dual carriageway.
Route 31 between the two cities is some 740 km long, and the project is designed to reduce accidents and improve traffic flow.
Ghantoot Transport & General Contracting has won a OMR 110 million (US$ 286 million) contract for a 120 km stretch of road, which also includes sections of service roads. Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) has won a separate OMR 91 million (US$ 236 million) contract for another 120 km stretch.
These are the first two of six packages of work being put out by the Ministry, with the remaining four said to be in the design stage. Construction work on the first two segments is expected to last three years.
