Pöyry awarded Power Plant project Oman
Pöyry has been awarded owner’s engineer services assignment for 120 MW Musandam Independent Power Plant Project in Oman.
The Musandam Power Company has awarded Pöyry with the owner’s engineer services assignment for the Musandam IPP (Independent Power Plant) Project. The assignment includes the design review of the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor documentation as well as technical and site supervision services.
Lead developer Oman Oil Company and its partner LG International Corporation from South Korea are setting up this 120 MW IPP using dual fuel reciprocating engines. The project is located at Tibat, Wilayat Bukha in the Musandam Governorate of Oman. As the Musandam peninsula is separated from the rest of the country, its electricity grid is also independent from Oman national grid. Also being the sole power supplier, the Plant must have a very high reliability and availability. It is designed to run primarily with natural gas but also to accept diesel fuel as a back-up fuel. This project will substitute the existing diesel-powered generation facilities in the governorate. The fast track project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the fourth quarter, 2016.
“Pöyry have been very active in the Sultanate of Oman. This order further demonstrates our commitment to this very important region and the trust that clients put in us. Pöyry is one of the world’s leading power engineering companies and we are proud to have been selected by the Musandam Power Company in this interesting and challenging project” says Dr Raffael Schubiger, Head of Thermal Power at Pöyry.
The value of the order is not disclosed. The order will be recognised within the Energy Business Group order stock in Q1 2015.
