Samsung LNG construction win
Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries said it has bagged a deal for the construction of two LNG carriers. with SK Shipping.
This deal seals the remaining two vessels from the Kogas tender, launched in 2014, after another Korean shipbuilder, DSME, finalized its contracts to build four LNG carriers.
Kogas will be importing 2.8 million mt per year of the chilled gas from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass terminal in the US for 20 years starting in 2017.
The two 170,000 cbm LNG carriers, to be built by SHI, will use the KC-1 LNG cargo containment system of corrugated membrane type developed by Kogas together with major shipyards in South Korea.
The contract is worth in excess of US$417 million, and vessels are scheduled for delivery on September 30, 2017.
