The Cheapest ‘Hidden Gem’ Towns In Italy For A Holiday

New research has revealed the cheapest cities in Italy for a holiday this summer. The research, by the Italian restaurant directory Real Italian Restaurants, compiled flight data, hotel costs, and daily costs to name the most affordable Italian cities for a five-day holiday for two, from the 11th to the 15th of August. Daily costs included transport, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and meals over the five-day period. 

  • Latina is the cheapest Italian city to visit, with a five-day trip – including flights, hotel and daily costs – costing £595.10 for two people in August. 
  • Novara is the second most affordable city in Italy for a holiday, costing £727.30 for two people this August – just £363.65 each.
  • Taranto is the third cheapest city in Italy, with a five-day trip priced at £751.

Latina is officially the cheapest city in Italy for a holiday, with a five-day trip including flights, hotel and daily costs coming to £595.10 for two in August (£297.55 each). This is considerably lower than any other city on the list. 

Novara is the second most affordable city, with a five-day trip coming to £727.30 for two people in August (£363.65 each) – far lower than Trieste, Italy’s most expensive city for a holiday (£1,251.70 for two people in August). 

Taranto is the third cheapest, with a five-day trip for two coming to £751 in August – just £375.50 each.

Fourth is Palermo, with flights, hotel and daily living costs equating to £751.30 – £375.65 each.

Naples is the fifth cheapest for a holiday in Italy. A five-day trip to Naples for two people, including flights, accommodation and daily living costs totals £756.50 – £378.25 each.

Also among the top ten cheapest locations are: Bergamo (£759.70 for travellers for five days this August), Turin (£764.00 for two), Rome (£776.50), Reggio Calabria (£777.50), and Foggia (£780.50 for a five-day trip for two).

However, with the right research and timing for flights and accommodation, there are plenty of Italian cities that offer immersive culture and delicious food at a budget-friendly cost.

“The cheapest city on our list, Latina, is just an hour’s drive from Rome, for example. This means you could easily take a day trip there and bask in its glorious architecture, art, and history, before returning to Latina and enjoying its stunning beaches”.
