BV consortium secure Manila water infrastructure upgrades

Manila Water appoints Black & Veatch to advance Water Infrastructure as part of extensive Capital Investment program.

Manila Water is looking to significantly increase capital spending in the 2018-2027 period to improve water sustainability. The investment will focus on developing water and wastewater infrastructure with the aim of improving services and creating more sustainable living conditions for the people of eastern Metropolitan Manila.

Black & Veatch, in consortium with local consultant DCCD Engineering, has been selected as one of two consultant teams under a five-year Consultancy Services Framework Agreement to assist Manila Water in more efficient delivery of multiple projects.

“Framework agreements are relatively uncommon in Southeast Asia and underline Manila Water’s advanced thinking and strong commitment to delivering world-class infrastructure against ambitious schedules. Blending Black & Veatch’s global and regional technical knowledge and experience together with DCCD‘s local expertise will create next-generation solutions for Manila Water to meet both its capital and operational expectations,” said William Yong, Vice President and Managing Director, Black & Veatch Southeast Asia.

He adds that the long-term continuity of the Framework Agreement will help the team understand Manila Water’s challenges more thoroughly, integrate with Manila Water in project development at the earliest stages and, in turn, create efficient and effectively-delivered solutions.

“The Consultancy Services Framework Agreement will reduce overall project duration through the elimination of repetitive consultancy tender process and enable us to work collaboratively with pre-selected consultants. In addition to continuity and consistency of the consultant’s deliverables, this will keep us on-task to further improve the city’s water and wastewater infrastructure and run it in the most cost-efficient manner,” said Maidy Lynne Quinto, Group Director for Corporate Project Management, Manila Water.

Across multiple projects under the Framework, Black & Veatch’s and DCCD’s scope will cover feasibility studies, design, procurement and construction supervision.

Black & Veatch first worked in the Philippines in 1967 on a Sewerage Master Plan for the Manila Metropolitan Area commissioned by the World Health Organization.

Getting young or even older children to prepare to move and leave their friends and family behind can be a challenge and should be thought through.

The options for education is another area that needs to be thought through.

Moving your child to a new country with a different education system can be a great opportunity to broaden their experience, but if they are close to key exams the timing can make this inadvisable. If you do take your family with you, it is important to decide between joining the local school system or choosing an international school.

Whether you will be living in a house or apartment, furnished or unfurnished, these decisions will affect what you need to take with you.
