The most enriching experience is my time spent in Sierra Leone as it taught me many things about myself. I am able to supervise/manage people and I am able to plan and organise operations in an accurate and efficient manner in order for local people to understand and undertake set tasks. When working and living in the jungle I have learnt to be resilient, self-reliant and work with a level of autonomy whilst dealing with many other factors like cultural differences, language barriers and difficult working conditions. Before accepting my position in SL I was offered and declined a Project Engineer’s role at Astrium a front runner in the European space industry.

To set up data collection equipment to ensure testing is efficient and completed in a timely manner.

Create action plans for new projects to ensure the completion of each project to a specified deadline.
Create new Autocad cross sectional/component and assembly drawings.
Ensure all data and documentation is current and correct using internal network with informal sharing of controlled and uncontrolled data filing systems linked to MRP and MPS systems
Liaise with product development and technical support team to discuss progress of projects, design changes that may need to occur and any issues/problems that may have arisen.

Liaise with subcontractor to discuss fabrication drawings/designs for test area developments; this would include custom stands for pipe work, guarding to cover health and safety and in some cases pipe work for exhaust outlets.

To complete NVQ level 3, HNC and key skills while spending six months in each section of the company being engineering design, quality assurance, product development, production, procurement and the test stand

During my NVQ I was asked to work on two projects for product development with the Engineering Manager of a company based in India KBI (Kirloskar Brothers International), this involved producing chassis/skid drawings, GA’s and new component drawings and was a very valuable experience.
Compile design files with all technical data and full written reports in paper and electronic form
