Thuraya Telecommunications Company is a Dubai-based Mobile Satellite Service operator offering innovative communications solutions to a variety of sectors including Government, Maritime, Energy, Broadcast Media and Humanitarian. Thuraya owns and operates two geostationary satellites which provide uninterrupted coverage across Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia, and all the oceans that surround them. Thuraya’s satellite footprint covers two thirds of the Globe. Thuraya products include handheld telephones, broadband modems, maritime products, and Machine-to-Machine terminals. Thuraya services include post-paid and pre-paid voice, broadband internet access, and a wide variety of M2M services such as SCADA, telemetry and tracking.

I was recruited into Thuraya to lead the Marketing team, which included Branding, Promotion and Pricing as well as Product Development and Management. I was also assigned to lead the Intercarrier and Roaming team who managed all of Thuraya’s interconnection arrangements and roaming agreements with other GSM operators. Finally, I was hired to build a Public Relations function and a Market Development team for commercial sectors.

During my tenure at Thuraya, I achieved the following:
► Revenue growth of 15% and achievement of EBITDA targets two years in a row
► Recruited PR team and established successful press outreach program which resulted in an increased of press mentions worldwide by seven times
► Launched new innovative products including the iPhone and Android SatSleeves, the Thuraya IP+, the Orion IP and Atlas IP maritime terminals, and the XT Hotspot.
►Created and built successful Market Development function to create awareness within end-user communities in the Maritime, Energy, Media and Humanitarians sectors.
► Designed and launched new website and grew monthly website visits by five times through aggressive social media strategy.
► Signed new distribution partners including Softbank Mobile, SMART and Airtel Africa.
