Studied in several universities in UK, Canada, France, India, Japan and colleges in Finland and holding a Master of Arts Degree with Distinction in Practicing Management (a modified Executive MBA) from Lancaster University, UK (2005), a Post-Graduate Diploma in Humanitarian Diplomacy, Diplo Foundation, Malta and Switzerland (2012) and a Diploma on International Management INSEAD, France (2004). In addition, an extensive educational and management background in the health sector in Finland and beyond, including graduation as a Public Health Nurse (1988), a Registered Nurse (1982) and a Dental Nurse (1974), including qualifications in Sweden and Kenya. In addition, since 1974, undertaken hundreds of short courses related to various expert areas, management, and leadership to ensure continuous, lifelong learning, keeping the knowledge and skills up to date.
For the humanitarian service, a recipient of the following five medals for merit: President of Finland: Finnish Red Cross Gold Medal (2017), Humanitarian Service Decoration – Gold Class Medal, The South African Red Cross Society (2009); Royal Government of Cambodia: SAHAMETREI Medal, level SENA (2002); President of Finland: Finnish Red Cross Silver Medal (2001); and President of Finland: Finnish Red Cross Bronze Medal (1996).

Professional Experience
I am pleased to present myself as an experienced woman leader, humanitarian expert, international manager and development executive with a background of over thirty years of service with international humanitarian organizations in various senior management, leadership and advisory positions both at the country, regional and headquarter levels.

After serving several years in Finland and Sweden, mainly in the public health sector (1974-1983), and finishing my 6-year assignment in Asia and Africa with a Finnish NGO (1984-1989), I have worked within the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement since 1990, including ICRC, IFRC and my National Society, the Finnish Red Cross, in four continents: Africa, Asia, the wider Middle East and Europe, including responsibilities as the ICRC Team Leader, Afghanistan (1990); IFRC Health Delegate/Acting Head of Delegation in Sri Lanka (1992-1993); IFRC Health Development Delegate / Acting Head of Delegation in Uganda (1994-1996); IFRC Head of Delegation, Cambodia (1998-2002); IFRC Country Representative, South Africa (2002-2009); Finnish Red Cross Regional Representative, Southern Africa (10 countries; 2009-2012); IFRC Senior Advisor, Office of the Regional Director, Europe region, Hungary (2012-2014); IFRC Head of Country Cluster (sub-region), Western Europe, Hungary (28 countries; 2014-2016); IFRC Transition Manager, IT and other Shared Services, Geneva (2016-2017); IFRC Senior Advisor, Partnerships Division, Geneva (2017); IFRC Head of Country Cluster (sub-region), Central- and South Eastern Europe (16 countries and Kosovo* in 2018-2019). During my service, I have gained excellent skills in the humanitarian leadership; international management; change management and transformation; human resources and people’s management; analysis and strategic planning, monitoring, evaluations, reporting; National Society development; programme-, emergency operations- and service management, including logistics and finance and risk management; extensive networking; Red Cross Red Crescent Movement cooperation, coordination and collaboration and humanitarian diplomacy at large, including international relations, communications, partnerships and resource development. High level negotiations with governments, international organisations and other stakeholders, high level representation as well as crises management and troubleshooting have become part of my strong skill set. Duties as a presenter, speaker, facilitator, trainer, mentor, coach, motivator, and influencer have been part of my duties throughout my career, along with the membership of the regional senior management teams in all continents.

Some highlights of my career include, for example, management of guidance and advisory processes on behalf of the IFRC for a major transformation processes by National Societies in Africa, Asia and Europe, including national level assessments (e.g. Well-functioning National Society, OCAC [Organizational Capacity Assessment and Certification]), long-term strategic and operational planning, strengthening legal base (i.e. revision of statutes, Red Cross Laws); management of disasters and international emergency appeals on behalf of the IFRC in support of the National Societies (i.e. dengue fever epidemic, floods, migration, COVID-19 operation in Europe); high level representation within the diplomatic community and negotiations with the respective governments for the IFRC diplomatic status agreements; negotiating and establishing of the IFRC Global Services Centre in Budapest; re-opening offices for IFRC (i.e. South Africa, Albania); managing and facilitating the transfer of the IFRC offices between the cities (i.e. Cape Town to Johannesburg in South Africa) and from a country to country (i.e. Harare, Zimbabwe to Johannesburg, South Africa); planning and establishing a rural health centre and community based health care services in rural Western Kenya; overseeing major research projects with all 54 National Societies on the humanitarian impact of the economic crises in Europe (2008) in 2013 and 2016 in close cooperation with various universities; communicating, advocating for and mobilising resources for programmes and operations and providing strategic and operational leadership at the regional level, while managing large technical expert teams of disaster management, health and care, National Society Development, including volunteering and youth engagement, communications, partnerships and resource development and PMER.

I am a mother of one son and in addition to my family, friends and work, I enjoy culture and architecture, interior design, garden and repair works as well as healthy lifestyle with many outdoor and sports related activities, including walking, hiking, cycling, swimming and sauna.
