This role provided me the opportunity to develop skills in triage assessment, where I determined diagnosis as per the DSM-V, and appropriate treatment pathways. I took a lead approach in the creation and facilitation of various out-patient group therapy programmes, working within the parameters of the NICE guidelines. Alongside this I managed a caseload of 30, and clinical/case management was a fundamental aspect to my role. I returned to the Day Hospital as a qualified clinician, providing clinical input and also strategic thinking towards the development of the programme.

I fulfilled a short term work opportunity in an inpatient hospital, supporting young people aged 12 to 18 with severe mental health problems and eating disorders. Many of these young people had been detained under the Mental Health Act and I therefore had the responsibility of liaising with community teams and attending CPA meetings. I managed my own caseload, carrying out comprehensive psychological assessments and conducting individual psychological therapy. I also implemented and facilitated group therapy sessions, addressing various psychological and therapeutic factors.

I developed my clinical knowledge and skills base in working with those struggling with Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorder, and managed a caseload incorporating the multifaceted presentations of those struggling with an eating disorder. Alongside this, I had autonomy in running regular drop-in clinics at two local Universities, offering relevant advice, support and signposting to secondary care agencies when deemed necessary.
