Senior Electrical Artisan 11 KV

I’m currently employed as a11 KV senior electrical Artisan at Sasol mining - Middelbult Colliery.The mine consists of 10 sections and is approx. 155 metres deep, working only Bord & Pillar method with a daily production target of 28 thousand tons.
Main duties consist of assisting to relocate 11 KV equipment i.e. Flame proof (1000-3000V)and non flame proof (1000-11 000V) transformers, RMU’s, MSU,s, PEX cables and rubber cables.
Testing of safety systems on 11 KV equipment.
Restoration of old equipment like flitting panels and non flame proof transformers.
Making sure all the substations are clean, inspected, secure and that the fire safety equipment is inspected.
Testing of rescue rooms equipment - Ventilation systems and battery backup lighting.
Currently in position of a valid underground license for LDV’s (light driving vehicle).
Medically fit to work underground.
Currently under review to get my underground switching license approved.

I was employed as a Technical/Project Manager for the largest facilities management company in SA. I was based at the University of Stellenbosch Medical Faculty which is well known throughout the world with National and International students.
My portfolio comprised of 3 main campuses, Tygerberg, Bellville and Worcester with an area coverage of 210 000 square meters, consisting of 9 hostels that provides accommodation to over 1500 students; 3 star lodge with 40 rooms; conference rooms; cafeterias; sports grounds; lecture halls, gym and 7 outside buildings.
The sensitivity and nature of the business called for extreme caution to be undertaken when work requests and projects were planned /executed to avoid disrupting classes, research labs, crucial experiments on humans and animals.
I worked closely with the Senior Facilities Manager on a daily basis to assure a sound customer relationship with our client. It was required from me to for fill her duties in her absence.
With my strong people management skills I managed a team of 12 engineers and 70 different contractors ranging from electrical, mechanical, BMS, plumbing, carpentry, welding, painting, Air conditioning and fire systems.
My main duties entailed running a smooth operation 24hours a day for all 3 sites, testing of standby generators (250KVA – 750KVA), no load and full load testing.
Ordering of diesel for all 10 generators during load shedding.
Liaising with contractors on current and upcoming projects ranging from R5000 – R100million. I was heavily involved with projects when it come to the scope of works, bill of quantities, interpret engineering drawings for projects, assigning contractors, quality of workmanship, time frames, budgets and signing off projects (snagging) to our high standards.
Ensuring all safety aspects like fire panels, gas suppression, critical alarms and PA systems were
tested , recorded and filed for audit purposes.
Issuing of work permits, overseeing that Health and Safety weren’t breached at any given time.
Upgrading of buildings and assets to be more energy efficient.
Daily staff meetings, toolbox talks and discussing safe practices within the workplace.
Implementing PPE for staff, first aid log books and accident report books.
Overseeing the budget, operational costs, budget forecast and managing the stores.

Worked for a Multi Billion pound company which is well known in Australia, America,United Kingdom and New Zealand.
I was employed as a Senior Electrical shift Supervisor overseeing the day to day operations of the centre by working closely with management, contractors, tenants and customers.
My main duties involved all Electrical LV works, Mechanical, Plumbing, Fabric, Fire systems, outside buildings, 4500 car park spaces and 300 shops.

Liaising directly with BBC Broadcasting staff regarding the ongoing operations and maintenance of critical systems; ensuring that transmission was unaffected at any given time.
Within 3 months I was promoted to an Electrical Liaison Supervisor where my roll changed. I I was involved in ever bigger challenges such as witnessing all handovers of new Broadcast Services Equipment installed at the BBC TVC to ensure it was suitable and fit for the purpose.

I was part of an £11m project at TVC that involved cooling resilience to all critical areas.
This also included backup power supplies to these areas through UPS & Static Switches.
Thermal Imaging on all critical kit when required to avoid hot spots occurring.
I had a team of 15 qualified electrical and mechanical technicians to carry out maintenance on all new and old equipment throughout all 7 buildings.
I had to make sure that all risk assessments and method statements were in place and completed properly for Health & Safety requirements before work could be carried out.
Signing off all time sheets and leave, including the ordering of materials required for the jobs, kept on record and on budget.
