Professional Experience

Most recently as Chartered Inspections Review Engineer for LUL covering the SSL and BCV parts of London’s Underground railway network, I review, check, process and sign off reports for maintenance of Stations, Tunnels, Bridges, Structures & Earth Structures, using manual methods but also developing automated inspection methods including the use of drones in shafts, and rail-mounted laser imaging technology in tunnels.
Prior to this, I had a mainly site-oriented 35-year career path of general construction and project management in civil engineering & Environmental works, transportation works, foundations of commercial buildings, mining and water structures, with specific site experience in:
• Desk and feasibility studies, Investigations & construction, related to railway and highway infrastructure.
• Demolition, remediation and Construction of foundations of buildings incl. lime or cement stabilisation.
• Hydropower and tailings dams, river diversion, water reservoirs, grouting and hydrogeology.
• Underground storage caverns, pipelines, access tunnels, linings and related structures.
• Landfill lining and capping construction, Sewage and drainage infrastructure. Familiar with EIA’s.
• Supervision of sheet pile wall investigations by cone penetrometer with pore water dissipation measurement.
• Corrosion prevention by sacrificial cathodic protection. Contamination investigations & disposal.

The work also included structural mapping, assessing and surveying ground conditions and prescribing drift support measures. Project work included some research and development on dewatering optimisation by contouring aquifer pressures and flows and relating them to head values, also recalculation of ore reserves to allow for increase in value of associated cobalt content and in the open pit mines, recalculation of reserves to allow for the presence of various undesirable accessory minerals which interfered with recovery of the end-product.

Included Geo-environmental investigation work associated with tailings dams and construction of mine buildings. Also participated in work associated with the Mines Hazard Abatement Program which included backfilling of shafts, strengthening surface structures and demolition where appropriate.

Mine Geologist, South Orebody, Copper Mine, Central Mine, Mindola.
Mostly production-related tasks such as supervising sampling, diamond drilling for various purposes, such as exploration, delineation, evaluation, haulage control, dewatering and drive piloting, calculation of ore reserves and monitoring aquifer pressures and flows during long term dewatering. The work also included structural mapping, assessing and surveying ground conditions and prescribing drift support measures. Project work included some research and development on dewatering optimisation by contouring aquifer pressures and flows and relating them to head values, also recalculation of ore reserves to allow for increase in value of associated cobalt content and in the open pit mines, recalculation of reserves to allow for the presence of various undesirable accessory minerals which interfered with recovery of the end-product.
